Prepare Your Practice for Diabetes Awareness Month

November is Diabetes Awareness Month. VSP^® has partnered with the American Diabetes Association (ADA) to provide Diabetes Education courses through Premier Academy360^TM. These courses will help your practice maximize VSP benefits and enhance the in-office experience for your patients with diabetes and those who are at risk for prediabetes.

Spread awareness. Use in-practice signage, social media, and email to promote Diabetes Awareness Month. Consider picking one day a week for your staff to wear blue and share photos on social media! Visit the VSP Eye on Diabetes page here for resources for your doctor and practice staff, as well as resources you can share with your patients. 

Stay connected with video. Consider recording or hosting a Facebook or Instagram Live video with an OD from your practice discussing diabetes and vision health. For more ideas, check out the recent Ask An Eye Doc video on the VSP Vision Care Facebook page. 

Run a promotion. Create a special offer that will encourage patients to schedule their eye exams during Diabetes Awareness Month. A few ideas to get you started: 

• Donate a certain percentage of money from November’s eye exams to a local diabetes non-profit or the ADA.
• Offer patients a limited-time discount on frames, lens enhancements, and eye exams.
• Partner with a local small business to give each November eye exam patient a coupon.

• Embed the video from YouTube in presentations, webpages, etc.
• Re-share and engage on social from the VSP Vision Care Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram posts

Or, better yet, customize the post to fit your practice’s new styles and specials. Remember to add your practice phone number and city or neighborhood hashtags so patients can find you and schedule their annual eye exam!
