February, designated American Heart Month, is the perfect time to educate patients on heart health and to encourage them to have an annual eye exam. The heart keeps the body moving and blood flowing. As you know, heart health connects to vision. Remind your patients that an eye exam can detect early signs of diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension which can be contributing factors to heart disease. Promote American Heart Month in the following ways:
Offer a free blood pressure test in the office. Partner with a local or mobile clinic and host heart-related screenings. Patients receive their eye exams and get their blood pressure tested in one visit. To promote, post images of staff members receiving heart-related screenings on social media and email communications.
Raffle a gym membership. Partner with a local gym and co-host a new patient contest to win a free gym membership pass for a month. Make sure your gym partner cross-promotes the contest on their page, which could drive new and potential patients to your practice. Learn more about hosting a contest here.
Get involved with a local farmers’ market. Secure a booth at a local farmers’ market. At your booth, pass out information on the best fruit and veggies to consume for heart and eye health. Post on social media and let your followers know where you will be in advance.
